Cemetery Rd, St Bathans
At the foot of the Hawkdun and Dunstan Ranges is the historic township of St Bathans and its cemetery. St Bathans was first settled around the early 1860s by gold miners, and it is assumed the cemetery was established at that time. Like many of the Maniototo cemeteries, St Bathans cemetery is small but has interesting decorated gravestones that tell a story of trials and tribulations of the historic hydraulic sluice mining area that is St Bathans.
St Bathans cemetery is located on Cemetery Road on the outskirts of St Bathans. Nearby is also St Bathans Catholic Cemetery. St Bathans cemetery is vested to Council but administered and maintained by locals.
