Cromwell to Luggate and back through Tarras. Great loop ride of about 90 km.
Head from Cromwell to Luggate on State Highway 6. This is a busy main highway which often has a strong Northerly wind. The road follows the shore of Lake Dunstan for some time before meandering through scenic farmland.
When you get to Luggate, turn right at Church Road and down the hill to cross over the Clutha River on the old wooden single land red bridge. Great pull in area on the other side for a break to take photos or wait for mates. At the junction by the pull over, turn right to head towards Tarras on SH 8B (Bell’s Lane). Follow SH 8B until you get to the T-Junction just before Tarras. Turn left to Tarras if you want a coffee or right towards Cromwell if you want to continue the loop. You will now be on SH 8 and you can follow this around the lake back to Cromwell. Some stunning lake views and plenty of rest areas to stop for photos.
