Derek welcomed everyone and announced that Aspiring Highways has agreed to relocate and provide new, larger blue facility signs further out from the Goff’s Road shortcut along the state highways. This is intended to encourage more travelers to divert into Ranfurly.
Tania Murray provided an update on the streetscape beautification planting, which occurred on 20 September with significant help from Southern Dash in planting out four locations on the main street.
The sculpture is targeted for installation in December.
A discussion was held regarding the lights not working on the Art Deco lamps and the seven NZTA lights.
Russ Haig provided an update on his investigations into the Long-Term Plan. Rebecca Williams (CODC) is scheduled to create a plan similar to the one for Tarras, but this is not scheduled until late 2025.
Peter Kelly (CODC) pointed out that Tim Cadogan, the CODC Mayor, will finish at Labour Weekend, with a new mayor to be elected on 30 October. Derek has emailed Tim on behalf of the MBG and the Maniototo to thank him for his work and guidance.
Janyne Fletcher and Kirstina Wills provided an update on the signage, noting there is a preferred design, which will be provided to the community for feedback.
Derek King mentioned the Gardens Club Tour this year (Saturday, 28 December), which will take place in Ranfurly. There will be 400 tickets available for sale.
Jemma Parker gave an update on the three-day celebration at Hayes Engineering over Labour Weekend, celebrating the centenary of the Haynes Wire Strainer.
There are two markets scheduled over Labour Weekend, along with a large car tour visiting, and the Hayes celebration. Accommodation is fully booked, and numerous people will be in town looking for food, drink, and services.
There was a discussion on the urgent need for an events planner for the Maniototo to ensure visitors have the best possible experience.
