Next Meeting Wednesday 20th November 5.30pm at Lohi.

Derek welcomed everyone and announced that Aspiring Highways has agreed to relocate and provide new, larger blue facility signs further out from the Goff’s Road shortcut along the state highways. This is intended to encourage more travelers to divert into Ranfurly.

Streetscape Beautification Update

Tania Murray provided an update on the streetscape beautification planting, which occurred on 20 September with significant help from Southern Dash in planting out four locations on the main street.

  • Special thanks to Jimmy Westall for the preparation and removal of gravel.
  • Thanks to Tiaki Maniototo and MHG for providing all the plants.
  • Tania and Gary also met with Gordon Bailey to outline the next steps of the beautification plan. The first step is the probable removal of the hedge on the west side of the Art Deco Museum, which, as noted by the CODC, is past its best and high maintenance. The area will be replanted by the beautification team.

Rail Trail Sun Sculpture

The sculpture is targeted for installation in December.

Art Deco Lamps & NZTA Lights

A discussion was held regarding the lights not working on the Art Deco lamps and the seven NZTA lights.

  • CODC noted that the Deco lights were purchased by the Community Board, and due to their age, parts and bulbs are unavailable. Both organizations are working together on a solution.
  • The NZTA has been informed about the seven lights, and they are aware of the issue.

Long-Term Plan Update

Russ Haig provided an update on his investigations into the Long-Term Plan. Rebecca Williams (CODC) is scheduled to create a plan similar to the one for Tarras, but this is not scheduled until late 2025.

  • Russ emphasized that Ranfurly needed to start consulting the community now to develop a clear wish list. He plans to organize a couple of community forums.

CODC Mayor Update

Peter Kelly (CODC) pointed out that Tim Cadogan, the CODC Mayor, will finish at Labour Weekend, with a new mayor to be elected on 30 October. Derek has emailed Tim on behalf of the MBG and the Maniototo to thank him for his work and guidance.

Signage Update

Janyne Fletcher and Kirstina Wills provided an update on the signage, noting there is a preferred design, which will be provided to the community for feedback.

Gardens Club Tour

Derek King mentioned the Gardens Club Tour this year (Saturday, 28 December), which will take place in Ranfurly. There will be 400 tickets available for sale.

Hayes Engineering Centenary

Jemma Parker gave an update on the three-day celebration at Hayes Engineering over Labour Weekend, celebrating the centenary of the Haynes Wire Strainer.

Labour Weekend Events

There are two markets scheduled over Labour Weekend, along with a large car tour visiting, and the Hayes celebration. Accommodation is fully booked, and numerous people will be in town looking for food, drink, and services.

Events Planner Needed
