Central to Mandeville Museum
Alexandra - Roxburgh - Raes Junction - Gore - Mandeville - Lumsden - Kingston - Frankton - Cromwell - Alexandra.
This is an inland ride that takes you from Central Otago rolling tussock land to the comparative lushness of Southland. Head out of Alexandra on SH 8 through Roxburgh, Ettrick (great places to buy fresh fruit) and passed Millers Flat to the Raes Junction turnoff. Turn right onto SH 90 and continue through Tapanui to Gore. At Gore take SH 94 to Mandeville. Mandeville Museum is worth the stop for its exhibitions and café. Continue up SH 94 42 km Lumsden then on to SH 6. Follow SH6 all the way to Queenstown. Amazing views along the lake side from Kingston but be wary of distracted drivers. A part of the road from Kingston to Queenstown is called the Devils Staircase – it is a known crash risk area…ride with caution. From Queenstown, continue on SH 6 to get back into Central Otago.
