Age Concern Otago began as a community based organisation founded in 1948 by the then Mayor of Dunedin and a number of public spirited people to promote the wellbeing and to serve the needs of older people in Otago.


Today, Age Concern Otago has grown into a substantial independent charitable organisation, valued and respected for its dedication and services to older people. Age Concern Otago now has the wider purpose of promoting healthy, active and positive ageing for people over 65. Age Concern Otago is recognised locally as a principal not for profit community organisation celebrating and advancing the wellbeing of Otago’s older people.  


Age Concern Otago is one of a federation of 34 Age Concern Councils within New Zealand collectively we work to promote the rights, wellbeing and quality of life of older people, kaumātua, and thier whānau. Advocating positive, healthy ageing for people of all ages is a major objective. We work in partnership with other organisations towards realising our vision.
