Experience "Grace and Wit": A Father and Daughters Art Exhibition in Alexandra

A Unique Cultural Experience in Central Otago

Visit Central Stories Museum & Art Gallery this March to discover Grace and Wit, an extraordinary exhibition celebrating the artistic legacy of the Jones family—a father and his three daughters—whose creative works span five decades of New Zealand art history.

Exhibition Highlights

Running from March 3-30, 2025, this special exhibition brings together the works of the late David Jones—who exhibited alongside New Zealand art icons Colin McCahon and Louise Henderson in the 1970s—and his three talented daughters:

  • Rachel Hirabayashi – A celebrated Central Otago artist known for her evocative landscape paintings.
  • Sarah Jones – Rachel's identical twin, who brings her perspective as a Structural Geologist to her artistic practice.
  • Amanda Griffin – A digital artist who transforms found objects and weathered surfaces into compelling contemporary compositions.

Why Visit

Grace and Wit offers visitors a rare opportunity to:

  • Explore how artistic vision passes from father to daughters.
  • Witness how identical twins interpret the same landscapes through different professional lenses.
  • Discover treasured artifacts from David Jones's studio, including paint-splattered aprons that chronicle a lifetime of artistic practice.
