ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Rod Eales was born in Whakatane on the Bay of Plenty coast. Since graduating with a Diploma in Fine Arts and a Diploma in Early Childhood Teaching, she has pursued a dual career in both painting and teaching. She has specialised in teaching art to young children, researching and presenting numerous workshops throughout New Zealand, curating children's exhibitions, and writing educational articles on art.

In 2013, Eales moved to a two-acre property where she developed an old-worldly garden and built a new studio. She now opens the garden to various garden groups throughout the summer months, having evolved from a reluctant gardener to a passionate one once she realised she could work with the same elements in her garden as in her painting—line, colour, composition, form, structure and texture.
